Learn to Row (Blades 1 Course)

The rowing courses aim to introduce those individuals who have not rowed or sculled before, to experience the sport. The sessions give all participants an active experience and involvement, and the physical exercises are gentle on the body. Frequent breaks are incorporated for rest and instructor feedback.

The course will provide the opportunity to: experience getting afloat on the River Taff, get to know your boat and oars, practice your new skills of sculling, learn how to use the indoor rowing machine.

"Since the opening of Cardiff Bay Water Activity Centre in 2005, I have been personally involved in developing sporting links with secondary schools in Cardiff through the Steve Redgrave Trust.

The grant has enabled children across the Welsh capital to discover the increasingly popular sport of Indoor Rowing."

Sir Steve Redgrave

Adaptive Rowing:

Adaptive rowing for people with disabilities has for many years been restricted by lack of facilities.

Certain groups with physical and learning disabilities have previously been excluded from participation in rowing because of inadequate and unsuitable equipment. However, due to changes in legislation and sporting expectation, this is now a fast growing sport amongst people with disabilities. By addressing access issues and providing specialist equipment including stable boats with postural support seating

Adventure Cardiff can ensure that rowing is achievable for nearly all who wish to experience the sport.

Along with the development of accessible rowing venues and a range of adapted rowing equipment, the need now is not just to provide basic availability, but also to ensure a framework exists for the development of meaningful opportunities across the performance spectrum. We clearly demonstrate this at Adventure Cardiff with a local, inexperienced rower now representing the UK in Adaptive Rowing at Olympic level, all thanks to the performance development pathway available. We are proud to say we have coaches able to develop athletes for future Paralympics competition.

The centre works in partnership with Disability Sport Wales, The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (FDSW), and is recognised by the National Governing Body (Welsh Amateur Rowing Association) as a "Blueprint for Best Practice".
